🏔️ My Banff Travel Story: 5 Days in the Canadian Rockies

Banff had always been on my bucket list. After hearing countless friends rave about the turquoise lakes, snow-capped peaks, and wildlife encounters, I finally booked a 5-day trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Spoiler alert—it was the most breathtaking adventure of my life.
Day 1 – Arrival in Banff Town
After landing in Calgary, I took the scenic drive along the Trans-Canada Highway. The moment I saw the mountains rise from the horizon, I knew this trip was going to be unforgettable. I checked into a cozy lodge in Banff town and spent the evening strolling along Banff Avenue, browsing souvenir shops, and enjoying poutine at a local restaurant.
Day 2 – Lake Louise & Fairview Lookout Hike
My second day was reserved for the famous Lake Louise in Banff. The water really was that postcard-perfect shade of turquoise! I rented a canoe and paddled across the lake, surrounded by towering glaciers. Later, I hiked up to the Fairview Lookout, which gave me one of the best panoramic views I’ve ever seen.
Day 3 – Moraine Lake Magic
If Lake Louise is iconic, then Moraine Lake is pure magic. I woke up early (4:30 am!) to catch the sunrise over the Valley of the Ten Peaks. The golden light hitting the turquoise water was unreal. Pro tip: arrive early because Moraine Lake parking fills up fast.
Day 4 – Wildlife Encounters & Sulphur Mountain
On my fourth day, I explored the trails around Banff and spotted elk grazing near the Bow River. Later, I took the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain, where I was rewarded with sweeping views of the Rockies. Watching the sunset from the summit boardwalk was easily one of the highlights of my trip.
Day 5 – Icefields Parkway Adventure
Before heading back, I drove along the Icefields Parkway, often called one of the most scenic drives in the world. Stops at Peyto Lake and Athabasca Glacier left me speechless. The raw beauty of the Canadian Rockies is something you have to see to believe.
